Safer Melton Partnership Consultation
Overview
The Safer Melton Partnership (SMP), also more widely known as the Community Safety Partnership (CSP), was formed due to the introduction of Crime and Disorder Act 1998. This act placed a statutory duty on the Police, Local Authority, County Council, Primary Care Trust, Police Authority, Probation Trust and Fire Authority to work collaboratively to develop and implement a Community Safety Strategy designed to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour within our borough.
The partnership also engages with as many local agencies and voluntary groups as possible to achieve a truly community-based multi-agency approach to crime reduction.
Every Community Safety Partnership in England is required to produce a strategy, setting out the key strategic aims and priorities for the partnership and how we plan to deliver on these. Alongside the strategy, we also undertake an annual Crime and Disorder ‘Strategic Assessment’ (SA), which informs the progress of the strategy, the work of partners and effective delivery of community safety work.
We are currently developing our latest strategy which will be in place until March 2029.
We want to understand the views of local residents and businesses in regard to Community Safety and hear your thoughts on what you think we should prioritise locally.
Why your views matter
Your feedback will allow us to shape the latest Safer Melton Partnership Strategy, focusing on the things that matter most to you helping to make Melton a safer place to live, work and visit.
As part of our most recent strategy we have been able to carry a number of projects to improve the safety of our community. These include:
- The DISC app being funded for 2 years – This is an incident reporting app for retailers that helps build links with the Police, local Authority, and other DISC users to help tackle retail crime.
- Additional CCTV in the town centre.
- Help Point – This is a service that offers additional help if required, it allows members of the public to directly contact our CCTV, this can provide some reassurance and assist with contacting further agencies if required.
- The Drink Safe campaign– We ran an anti-spiking campaign over the festive period providing 3 our venders with 10,000 drink covers and drink testing kits.
- The Skate park graffiti project – we funded a graffiti artist to bring to life our skate park in the town centre, using our residents designs to give the sense of ownership and value to our users.
What happens next
Once the survery has been completed we will analyse the results, and use them to help us shape the Safer Melton Partnership Strategy.
The strategy will be in place for 4 years, and will impact the work the partnership does to improve community safety locally.
