Town Centre Design Guidance Draft Supplementary Planning Document

Closes 2 Jul 2025

Opened 21 May 2025

Overview

Have your say on how we regenerate Melton Mowbray town centre.

We have commissioned Town Centre Design Guidance, which offers advice on shop fronts, street furniture, and signage. The guide was funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, using feedback from the Town Centre Perception survey from 2023.

To expand the document's scope and ensure it is embedded into practice, we are consulting on adopting it as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). This means that it would become a material consideration for decisions on planning permissions within the town centre.

Before we adopt this as an SPD, all persons and organisations are invited to make comments so we can ensure it is suitable for adoption.

There are 4 key documents that can be viewed below:

Comments must be received by 23:59 on Wednesday 2nd July 2025.

Further information including why a draft SPD has been prepared for the town centre, consultation activities and contact details can be found on our Melton Plan website.

Why your views matter

To adopt the Town Centre Design Guidance as a Supplementary Planning Document we need to take this to Full Council, where the councillors will discuss the document in light of comments received through this consultation and vote on whether they would like to formally adopt it.

Before we take this to Full Council we need to finalise the document. Your comments will be taken into consideration during this process and can help shape the Town Centre Design Guidance Supplementary Planning Document.
