We asked

We wanted to know what you thoguht of the open spaces across our borough. We wanted to understand which were most special to you, how accessible you thought they were and how effectively you thought they were managed.

You said

55 people responded to the survey and you said that:

  • Open spaces across the borough are widely appreciated and used, both by residents and visitors.
  • You used open spaces for three keys reasons:
    • to improve your mental health, physical health and wellbeing
    • to enjoy and appreciate nature
    • for community and social interaction.
  • You would like to see an increase in accessible natural green space, parks and public gardens.
  • As a secondary priority, you would like to see improved provisions for amenity green space, sports, games and play.
  • There is a need to increase accessible open space, particularly in and around new housing estates.

Those who responded also noted that there were issues with particular open spaces, sharing concerns on accessibility, management, nature conservation and the environment.

The full findings of the consultation can be found in the Open Space Consultation report.

We did

The feedback from the consultation was used as part of the evidence base for the open space quantity and access standards, which informed the Open Space Strategy and Action Plan (2025).

Overview

We want to understand your views on open spaces in the borough and who manages them.

Open spaces are often thought of as green spaces, and while many of these areas do have green space, it is not always the case. Open Spaces tend to be areas that have public value such as, parks, public gardens, open areas within a neighbourhood, play areas, sports facilities, allotments, amenity greenspace, churchyards and cemeteries.

Please be aware that this survey may look a little different to our others, this is because the survey is being undertaken by MD2 Consulting on behalf of the council. You can take part by clicking the link below, where you will be directed to a Google Form.

Why your views matter

This survey is part of our Melton Local Plan Update.

By answering the questions you will help us understand local opinions on our existing open spaces in Melton borough, how you use them and how easy they are to access.

The results will help us shape the future of our local open spaces as we can use these to update our Open Spaces Strategy and Action Plan and in turn our Local Plan policies.
